As I waited for the bus to arrive I started chatting to a girl called Jeni. She was on the same bus as me so it was nice to meet someone before id even got on the bus. We sat near each other for the first journey as we went to a place called cathedral cove (which is where the pic is taken from). For those of you I haven't told I am on a bus tour of New Zealand called the kiwi experience and they take you to different places around New Zealand and it's mainly used by travellers.
Cathedral Cove was a 45 minute walk up and down stairs and hills until you climb about 50 steps down to reach the beach. At the point I got down there 2 things were crossing my mind...'maybe I should have brought some proper sturdy shoes' and 'omg do I have to walk back up again!'. Jen and I sat on the beach for half an hour watching the world go by and were joined by Kirsty and Stacey. We decided to walk back up together (the bus driver tells us when we have to be back at the bus) and we marched our way back up. None of us stopped, we were on a mission because if we stopped we would never get going again! Thank god for the ice lolly seller at the top :)
From there we moved to our hostel at hot water beach. I was in a 6 bunk bed room with 6 girls and it was really nice. We had fish and chips for tea and then grabbed our shovels and walked 10 minutes to the beach. It's a beach (no surprise there) with hot water springs where the water is about 60/70 degrees at its hottest. You dig your holes and essentially lay in the water. I couldn't put my feet in it was so hot and apparently locals cook their food in the springs as the water is so warm. Well as a lot of you will know, I'm not the biggest fan of sand and people were chucking it all over their bodies so I left a short while after and went back for a shower.
It chucked it down in the night (I have no form of rain jacket) and a lot of people left their towels out to dry which means everything was soaked. We then departed at 7.30Am to our next stop. I'm having to get out of bed earlier than I used to for work in the morning, I thought this was supposed to be a holiday?! xx
