Hello!!!!!!
Today, I am very excited writing this as I have just done a 1200ft skydive!!!!!! Well maybe not just but at about 12 o'clock this afternoon!
As I thought I would be, I am still on a high now. It feels so strange to think that we've done it. I had been trying to decide for the whole trip but when we arrived into Queenstown yesterday it just seemed like now or never so we booked it ready for today. And I have to say, I think its the best decision I've ever made.
We did the skydive at a place called Glenorchy which was about a 40min drive from Queenstown centre and was also a major location for the filming of Lord of the Rings which just added to the excitement. Luckily, I managed to hold my nerves on the drive and I just felt really excited. The sky was also perfect blue which was a massive relief as it had been raining the previous day.
I think my nerves really started to kick in when we arrived at the airfield. I think we were all just thinking 'are we actually doing this??' We watched a video of someone else's skydive though to psych ourselves up and it was then that I just really wanted to get out there and do it.
As we were going up in the plane one by one we were happy that it was just us three and a lovely man from Holland doing the skydive. I don't think I could have waited too long! Once kitted out in her jumpsuit, Lynds went first up in the plane after giving us one last nervous wave. It was then that I was so happy we were going up one by one as getting to watch her come down in the parachute was amazing and it got me really excited for my jump as I was next!
I have to say, I really suprised myself as even going up in the plane I still felt really excited and not just stupidly scared like I though I would. It did help that the views from the plane were awesome! We flew right over the snowcapped mountains, it was amazing! However, once I realised that I now had to jump out of the plane my nerves really started to kick in. I felt like I was shaking like a leaf! I could see the pilot counting down, 3,2,1 and then the door opened. I was then sat leaning out of the door, looking down thinking 'what the hell am I doing??' Everything after this then happened so fast as before I knew it we were freefalling through the air. It was the most bizarre feeling I have ever had in my whole life!! The only thing I can compare it to is the Oblivion at Alton Towers but 100 times more! The parachute was then released and we were just floating in the air over the lake and the mountains. It was absolutely incredible! I still can't really describe it now. It felt like the closest thing I would ever get to flying. I just absolutely loved it!
I could have stayed up there all day but I was soon floating back down to earth waving and shouting to Jen and Lynds, probably annoying the hell out of the guy I was jumping with.
It is really cliche but I just wanted to do it again stright away, I don't think I'll ever be able to top that!
