Sa-wat-dee-ka!
We safely arrived into Bangkok in the early hours of Thursday morning and after some confusion were thankfully taken to our hotel where we crashed out untill the morning.
Now we have only been here two days and are already tired of being asked 'you twins??'. Im seriously considering dying my hair brown!!!
After feeling slightly normal after our sleep we plucked up the courage to venture into the craziness that is Bangkok city centre. It was probably just as I imagined even though nothing could quite prepare me for the madness. After about half an hour nearly every scam in the guide book had been tried on us. It is definitely our bible!!
We took one of the many (and very cheap) taxi rides of the day to the Grand Palace. I gave up looking out of the window and decided it was best not to see how fast we were going! Once at the palace, although taking care to be respectfully dressed we were soon whisked off and kitted out in some rather spectacular ill fitting shirts. Photos will not be appearing on facebook any time soon!
The palace itself is truly stunning and definitely stands out a mile from some of the more run down buildings surrounding it. I am sure however that it is one rule for tourists and other for the locals as I did not see many other people donning the same shirts as us!
After sorting out some plans for our travels at the train station we embarked on what was to be the worlds longest taxi ride through Bangkok's rush hour (we really should have listened to the guide book!) To top it off the driver clearly didn't have a clue where we were staying and stopped several times to ask for directions.
Luckily we eventually arrived at the hotel and stocked up on some well needed sleep as jetlag began to set in.
We are heading down South by train this evening to begin our Island hopping at Ko Tao tomorrow. Bring on the beach!!
Bye!!xxx
