Here is a random pic of Monaco where we went to the Monte Carlo casino... no pics of Germany!
We went to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria. This was the first concentration camp opened and the last to close. This was quite an experience and is very hard to put into words. No one in our Contiki group said a word as we watched a film on the camp, walked through the camp and into its church, gas chambers, and crematorium. We then saw memorials on the grounds near the camp. They also have a huge staircase going up the side of a hill which the victims of the camp had to climb. Many were so frail/ starved that they would fall down the stairs like dominos. I think everyone should have this experience- really brings to life such an aweful time in history by walking were the victims walked.
MUNICH- I know I have lost all order . We were only in Munich about 12 hours. We walked to the building that houses the Glockenspiel (which is the really famous coo-coo clock) but its on top of a tall building and kinda hard to see. Then we went to the Oktoberfest's (aka most famous beerhall in the world) Hofbrau House. Neither of us care for beer, but German beer just has the very basic ingredients with no preservatives and actually tasted quite nice. I got it mixed with lemonade (the "Radler"). We had a stein of it- a whole liter! I also got my pic with some of the local Germans- did anyone know that they actually wear the authentic German outfits with tights and those peter pan-like hats in public?!?! haha! We also met a couple local guys and a Michigan guy!
