We arrived into the town of Cuzco and headed straight for our accommodation... "the wild rover" which also has hostels in La Paz and Arriquipa! They are known for their comfy beds, hot showers and best parties! And all three are true! Cuzco is a really lovely town to look around with plazas, VERY old churches, lined with cobble stone streets, San Pedro market and some buildings are white with colored balconies or window frames! Lots of people stand on the street offering you things from paintings and jewellery to tours and massages! Generally all excursions to Machu Picchu are organised through the many travel agents available in Cuzco! We chose the jungle trek 3 nights 4 days of hiking, zip lining, white water rafting and mountain biking! It was a group of 12 people and great fun and also challenging at the same time! On the 3rd day after zip lining we walked along the train track until arriving in Aguas Calientes. A town below Machu Picchu! Our friendly guide Carlos informed us we were to wake at 4 to make sure we could start walking up the thousands of Inca steps early enough to see the sunrise! So thats exactly what we did! Every single step (with lots of complaining on my behalf) but we did it! Missed sunrise due to cloud cover (being 2450 meters above sea level) and our next guide, Edgar, sleeping in! He arrived and started our tour around Machu Picchu with loads of information! Nics totally got it in for the Incas and can't wait to study them more! After our tour, our group got split up to go Hyuana Picchu which meant another thousand steps up to the best view of Machu Picchu. We had our lunch up there and just watched the clouds rise and Machu Picchu appeared in clear view before our eyes! Amazing, spectacular and mind blowing are only a few words we can use to describe how we felt doing and seeing Machu Picchu! We both believe our tour to Machu Picchu was the best we've done so far! We returned to Cuzco by train and bus back to the Wild Rover! Spent the weekend partying with our friends we had met in Rio De Jenero and also made a tonne of new ones! Jack also went to a soccer match - a cup final! He was also in his element (soccer, beer and food available all day) at the hostel only leaving the wild rover only a few times ! Nic on the other hand actually tried to make an effort with Cusco and got to know the streets and some more inca history.
