Drive down to Lake Retorua which is beautiful and has St Arnaud range mountains as a back drop. We hit the road south along the 6 highway when the unmanageable happens - the Townace picks up a speeding ticket coming into Murchison. 120 fat ones to chew on. It's a 100 limit on the long roads and then suddenly goes down to 50 in the town (which consists of a house, farm, hut and petrol station - not the built up area im used to). Police car follows the TA into the petrol station, and thinking the copper wants to check out the van, I get out the car and say "Alright!" Big mistake the Kiwi officer is not impressed by my casualness and any slither of hope I had of not being hit by a fine had just vanished. "What' he replies " you were doing 69 in a 50" and the rest is history. We're going to try and not pay the 120 bucks fine but apparently they stop you as the airport if you don't. Well, we may be here for the Lions after all.
