We had a lazy morning after our busy dat yesterday, checking out of our hostel at midday. With our massive backpackpacks on we made our way down Khoa San Rd in true back packer style, to Welcome Travel. We tried to book an overnight train to Chiang Mai but it was fully booked!!!! We looked into other options to get there and had the choice of bus or flight. The bus would have taken over 12 hours so we serched on the net and ended up booking ourselves onto a return Air Asia flight. It cost us around 900 Baht in total which was alot cheaper than what the agency had quoted for a flight so we were happy to do it. It works out around 35 pounds each way per person and saves us so much time!
We spent some time in the internet cafe to sort some hostels for later in our trip before having some lunch. We then headed back to Welcome Travel as that was where we were being picked up to then be taken to Bangkok airport for our flight to Chiang Mai. The transfer cost us 150 Baht each, not much at all and we figured it was better than a taxi! But saying that after our transfer was half an hour late they waved down a taxi and sent us in that anyway! Very dodgy taxi driver but we got to the airport in one piece and on time.
Very impressed with Air Asia, they are just Asia's version of Easy Jet. We were delayed by about an hour but we rung our hostel to let them know we would be late so it wasn't too much of a problem. The flight was just over an hour long and it was so comfortable - Nick pushed his way to the front of the queue and managed to get us exit seats which was good, we had so much room!
When we arrived we had no problems in getting a taxi, there was a booth at the airport who we negotiated a price with and then jotted it down on some paper and we went out to wait for the next car - very easy and only 120 Baht for both of us (around 2 pounds).
Our hostel, MD House, is more like a hotel than a hostel. We were welcomed by the owner who was such a nice man and seems very trusting and helpful. As we have come up to Chiang Mai a day early we had to make a seperate booking for the extra one nights stay, we also decided when checking in that we wanted one more night at the end of our stay too, meaning we are here 5 nights. He was so good and helpful and happily arranged it all for us.
Our room is massive!! Complete opposite to our Bangkok room (which is by far a good thing trust me!) There are a few cobwebs but as long as we don't see the spiders that own them then we will be fine! Very happy and very impressed so far & from looking at the maps we are in a perfect location too.
