We left LHR T4 on flight QF2 at 2230 after a long and manic day of packing and emotional goodbyes! Being our longest flight of the trip neither of us were looking forward to it but it went surprisingly quick! Being a night flight it was quiet as everyone was sleeping - we both managed to both get a few hours kip too which helped.
When we finally arrived at Bangkok, immigration was quick and easy and our bags came faily quick too which was a relief. We carried on through departures and were met by a little Thai man who was holding a name board. He took us through the airport, along with another young couple and we waited outside for our minibus. The heat was intence, around 33 degrees!!
When we were pulling up to the other couples hostel we saw a baby elephant!! Just in the street with a couple of men - how sereal is that!!!! We couldn't believe our eyes. I say a baby elephant but it wasn't that small!! After dropping them off we carried on to our hostel, the Sawasdee Bangkok Inn.
First impressions weren't great, it seemed like a dodgy area that really smelt and our room was literally 4 walls with a bed touching almost all of them! lol. Basic but had a fan and a private bathroom so could have been alot worse!
We had a rest and sorted out our bags before going for a walk around the area & to get some food. We strolled along what we thought was Khoa San Road and came across Democracy Monument roundabout and a few surrounding temples. Were both very tired so opted for quick and easy McThai (McDonalds) for dinner, 2 large meals costing only 265Baht, around 4 pounds. We then headed back to our hostel and on the 2nd look with tired eyes it wasn't all that bad.
