Yet another entry from Gili Trawangan, Indonesia.
Week five consisted of both of us assisting on the Bio-Rocker's Rescue Course. The Bio-Rocker's are a group of people who have paid to do some conservation work around the Gili Islands. Their package includes training up to DM level and conservation work.... the rescue course was brilliant fun especially on their 'L' dive where we had the opportunity to act as if we were narced and doing stupid things underwater like removing our kit, pretending we can swim like fish, walking upside down, fins on our hands, masks in the wrong place etc etc - you name it - we did it!
Nick had a boy's night out, it started with a DVD and booze then a wild night out at the Irish/Blue Marlin Dive. Helen was able to appreciate the peace and quiet and watched a children's doggy film!!
We also had a staff party at our dive centre, it was full of fun and games on the beach! Lots of food but not so much alcohol! Some of the races were simple, like the egg and spoon race but then others were more complicated - ie. running with fins on, trying to get a pencil into a bottle without using your hands and running back with fins! (although nobody ran back with fins as they had given up... it was so hard as the fins kept getting caught in the sand!!!) Nick had a very majestic fall at his first attempt almost knocking everybody else over! [You can see the photos on Facebook under Trawangan Dive's page!!] It got a little messy when everyone was smashing eggs all over each other, throwing flour at everyone and wrestling on the beach so everyone was covered in egg, sand and flour!
The 1st of April marked the launch of Project Aware, which is PADI's program of raising awareness about the oceanic eco-system, the impact rubbish has on the environment and raising shark awareness. Helen was so excited to lead the first of the "Dive with Debris" dives, which is a dive where everyone collects litter and brings it all back to the dive centre. It was rewarding and both of us cannot wait to be involved in more dives, beach clean ups etc....
p.s - No rain seen this week!!! Yay!
No of Cockroaches killed: 4 (Yes the numbers increasing - argh!)
No of Scorpions killed: 1 (and it was feasting on a cockroach, so it did us a favour!)
