The beginning of the third week on Gili Trawangan starts with Helen being unwell once again, its no fun considering Helen rarely gets ill back home. This meant sacrificing a couple of days diving just to get better!!
This week like the last has lots of diving, studying and practical assessments. We are trying to complete as much as we can as we know there are 6 new DM students starting next week, one of the water tasks we had to do was treading in water for 15 minutes with our hands out of the water for the last 2 minutes ...Trawangan Dive do this with a difference..,you have to hold two bottles of beer out of the water....harder than it sounds...
We had a night dive which was amazing seeing different species of Octopus however, we were not so impressed with the students kicking up sand everywhere though...Nick had a very close encounter with a lionfish....luckily it just grazed by and none of the spines stuck into Nick.... Not sure if Helen could cope with an actual emergency...in particularly in the dark....
Nick had another wild night at the Irish......staggering home at 3am with no idea how he picked up his shorts from the dive shop and left his flip flops behind.........Wednesdays are definitely legendary here on the island...
This week the currents were ridiculously strong. They are so strong that we nearly always almost lose our masks and our legs go one way while our heads are going another way. The bubbles we blow spiral like crazy to the surface 20 metres away (that tells you how strong the currents are, great preparation for Komodo!)
There was a couple of days of tropical sunshine which was warmly welcomed by all, in contrast we had one nights heavy rain and both of us ended up having to walk home from the village in calf deep water. The roads were like rivers and the steps were like waterfalls....We kid you not!
