A 10 minute ride in a tuk tuk and we arrived at our next hostel. Once we'd checked in we headed out with the girls to explore the town and grab some food... a buffet of battered bread, pumpkin, aubergene, salad, pasta and rice all heated up in a wok - strange!! We went to the Luang Prabang night market which is lovely and has a lot of handicrafts, but is far too long. We made friends with 2 more English girls, Stef and Emma, and the next day the 6 of us (poor Leila was feeling slightly ill) took a 45 minute (sickly) ride to Kuang Si waterfall, which was absolutely stunning.
The water was clear blue because of the limestone and there were a couple of areas where you could get in and swim. One of these areas had a rope swing which was pretty popular with tourists and locals, so me and Billy gave it a go and just to give you all back home a giggle, I ended up flashing everyone! Haha. Safe to say that was one of my more embarrassing moments!! In the evening we went out again for food with the girls, and I had the yummiest (but spiciest) green curry with sticky rice. Sticky rice has to be left in cold water for 6 hours before being cooked, and then is put into a bamboo container which you eat out of with your hands. The rice is so sticky that you're able to dip it into your curry. So good!
The next day we sadly said goodbye to our fwends Leila, Amy and Meg. We took a trip with Emma and Stef in the evening to the bar Utopia, which everyone was raving about, and it was pretty sweet. Tables at knee level with cushions to sit cross legged on, lights in the trees and located alongside the river. The following day we took a not so long 25 minute ride to Tad Sae waterfall, which was just as stunning as the first with the same crystal blue water. The difference with this one was that there were elephants walking around which you could ride and bathe - we unfortunately didn't allow ourselves enough time otherwise I would have quite liked to do this!
Duke, who was from Vietnam and helping out at the hostel, had taught himself to play the ukelele a week before, and was pretty awesome already!! One of our favorite moments staying here was having a sing song to Jason Mraz - I'm Yours while Duke played his ukelele, and we got it on film too. On our last day we decided to hire some bikes and go for a cycle round the town.... stupidly we did this bang in the middle of the market being set up so had to take a diversion. It ended up working in our favour as we found loads more of the town we didn't know existed - lots of pretty little restaurants and bars all lit up alongside the river. Back to the hostel to pack and get another early night, then it was time to catch the dreaded 7 hour bus journey to Vangvieng the following afternoon!
