Went on a day trip to Pushkar. The bus took nealry 4 hours, rather than the stated 2, so we didn't have much time to look around. Had enough time to look around the stalls, and down by the holy lake. It was so nice. My favourite place so far. There were people down by the lake praying, washing and kids playing. Like mosques you had to take shoes off when walking near the water. There are actually 500 little temples all around he lake and there are loads of chants coming from doorways. There are birds, dogs, cows and monkeys everywhere. And even the last crocodile ever caught in the river is stuffed and on display. But the main reason for going to Pushkar was for the massive camel fair. Every year hundreds of thousands of camel traders come to Pushkar and it gets really really busy. It hadn't reached full swing so it was nice when we were there. It was desert like were the camels were and there were loads - as far as you could see. Most were dressed up in the traditional gear and there were street stalls and even a fun fair being put up - however I don't think we would have trusted to go on anything, by the looks of how they were putting it together, with bits of bamboo! We also saw a self flangulist, who was beating himself up with a massive whip and then asking money from the guys how ran the stalls. All in all it was a good day, even if the long bus journey back was hard, in a bus that frankly shouldn't have been on the road. We stopped at a road side cafe at night on the way back, (which by the way, the bus just went on to the wrong side of the carriage way to drive down to it!!!!!!!) but as we were not convinced of the food, we stuck to our crisps and biscuits, and got good old Mrs Singh to sort us out when we got home.
The next day Andi managed to get tickets to the big cricket game in Jaipur - India v Pakistan. They are like gold dust, so we were quite excited. We decided as we were going to watch cricket, we'd have an 'english' day and not have any curry for a change. Although we couldn't get fish and chips - so we'd to go American! But refused to go for MacDonalds - so Pizza Hut it was. And it was soooo gooooood. Got a big feast of pasta and pizza, with sprite and everything! Now I like curry just as much as the next girl, but not for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Getting into the cricket was a nightmare. There were hundreds of people about, but with no signs about, nobody telling us where to go etc etc. But finally we got in - through lots of bag searches! My excitement soon fading - to be fair cricket is cricket, whether it's in Durham of India! We didn't stay until the end though as we'd bought tickets for the cinema. I think the ladies behind us who we talked to thought we were a bit mad - going to see a Bollywood film when we can't understand a work of Hindi!! But it was good, quite easy to follow, although there wasn't much dancing in this one, so we may have to go back and see another one. But good 3 hours entertainment for about 1 pound 30pence!
