So we have reached the final stage of our India adventure, as we leave tonight for Singapore (if 'Indian Time' doesn't get us delayed again!).
So here, we're just going to do a quick round up of our thoughts on India.
Things we will miss about India
Fantastic views on some of the coast lines.
Out of this world food (fish curries)
Respect for how people live their entire lives, driven so strongly by religion in everything they do - they just don't understand how or why foreigners can live without a religion.
Respect for how so many religions can live together so peacefully
Freshly peeled and cut pineapple
The kids being so amzed to see westerners and wanting to shake our hands
How cheap the food and beer is
Beer in teapots
Watching the fishing boats
The hot Arabian Sea
How diverse the country is (culture and landscape)
The head 'waggle' that the Indians do to say yes, agree with something or to show they're happy - we love it! And found ourselves starting to do it by the end of the trip.
Crazing dancing
Being able to wear silly trousers and fitting in!
Things we will not miss about India
'Hello hello pineapple' 'Hello hello taxi' 'Hello hello rickshaw'
'Just take a look my friend'
'Maybe later'
The dirt
The disrespect for their surroundings (littering in many different ways)
Toilets! or lack of them! (seeing people use the roadside)
Mosquitos, rats and stray dogs with fleas
The constant hassle - for anything, just to get your money
How the place drains your energy - how unbelievably hard it is to do anything
How very little has any logic or sense to it and is so inefficient
How people don't have manners and how they rush constantly to get there first, get off first, be at the front of the line, etc etc etc, when there's no need to as most of the time there's room, or time to spare etc
Having to eat curry or deep fried food for every meal of every day
How it drains your emotions - one minute you could be so annoyed and the next chilling out looking over the sea
How kids are exploited, by selling stuff, begging and doing dances for money. I know it vital for them to learn these skills as they'll need them to survive as adults but it's such a shame kids have to do this at all, never mind on this level
The worry of infection, illness, disease
How quickly ice lollies melt (incredible)
Having to extract every little bit of info from people - they don't volunteer much
The smells - rubbish, human waste and burning incense (although it's nice - it's just constant and everything smells of it at the end of the day)
Hello, Jarvis here...
India has been an expereince for both of us. Looking back at the whole month, 'd score the place 6.5 / 10. There has been ups (too many to mention) and downs (Bombay) along the way, but generally India has been good. As we mention above, it can be soul destroying being a touist in India. People know that tourists have cash and set about every possible means to liberate you of it, which makes life hard when you just want a stroll on the beach. But even this has a funny side, with several shops now selling t-shirts with the slogan "no pineapple, no shoes, no towels, no carved elephant, no one ruppee, no pen, no rickshaw, no bother". Personally I'd change "no bother" to "so please foxtrot oscar".
Its off to Singapore now for a few days of tourist behaviour and then to Australia. I'm sure that the frequency of blogs will ease off as we start earning how to surf and spend more time in restaurants devouring large lumps of meat for the first time in a month...
