We stayed at Myella Farm stay near Rockhampton for 2 days for a true Auzzie experience. We had heard lots of good things about Myella from fellow travellers and we weren't disappointed. The farm is family owned, and it has a nice cosy feel, a real home away from home. All the family make you feel really welcome. First up was a bit of horse riding after kitting up in our cowboy gear, I have never done horse riding before, and my first go didn't go too smoothly. I was picked to be in the demonstration for the group for getting on and off the horse etc, which I was a bit worried about considering I had never actually been on a horse before. The instructor held the reins when I got on and led the horse around but it got too close to another horse with a 7 year old girls on and my horse jumped and hers ran throwing her off! Luckily she was OK, not quite the start I had hoped for. My horse was called Betty and she was quite happy to go as slow as she could and eat as much grass as possible. We had a horse ride around the farm and even got up to a trot but Betty would only do that for a few seconds before she got bored and went in search of more fresh grass. Chris's horse was a bit better. We had great home cooked meals, mash potato and dumplings, toasted sandwiches cooked on the open fire. They kept a fire going constantly with a kettle always on the boil over it. Next we had a go at motorbike riding, something I've always wanted to do. The bikes were really heavy and manual so it took me a while to get used to it. They have a strict 35Kph limit so we never went very fast. But one poor lad skidded on the gravel and the bike fell on him, and he ended up with a broken ankle. So the bike rides ended quickly that day. The family feed a baby Kangaroo that lost it's mother. It is the CUTEST little thing. It curls up by the fire and I got to feed it milk. I don't quite know how it will go back to the wild after having been cuddled and cradled by English tourists. The poor thing is probably blind in one eye from so many camera flashes going off in its face. There was a baby wallaby there too. The farm was mainly a cattle farm, and out in the big fields you could see loads of kangaroos hopping around, and they would come through the garden, I even saw one hopping along outside my room. We also got to milk a cow, we all managed to do it, but we were rubbish compared to the experts. We got to have fresh creamy milk in our tea every day. The next day we had more horse riding and motorbike riding, although most people didn't feel like doing it after the accident. Or you could just lounge around in a hammock, try cracking a whip (which really hurts when you catch yourself!). Chris did the 7km motorbike ride around the farm, while I sat in the back of Pete's (the owner) ute and led them round. We both wished we could have stayed an extra day, it's such a nice relaxing place and we got to try so many things and it was pretty cheap for what you got to do.
