We had a relaxing week in Townsville, doing nothing but sit on the beach and chill out before we headed up to Cairns. Cairns is a really touristy town, it has a million tour booking places and lots of bars etc, but it's justified as there is so much to do here. We were a bit unlucky when we first arrived as the weather wasn't good for us. It was non-stop raining, we totally forgot how depressing the rain is (feel sorry for you guys). So we waited for a few days for the weather to change before we booked any tours. On the first sunny day we worked up the courage to do a Skydive, something I've wanted to do for years but when it actually came round to it, I felt very scared. But I still found myself on the plane wearing a jumping suit, taking deep breaths, we climbed to 14,000 ft which gave us 60 seconds freefall. I was last to jump, I got to the edge and my tandem partner just rocked us forward and I was in the air, you didn't even have time to get scared. You just feel like you are floating in the air, we both want to do it again! We went out on a boat trip to the Reef, and we got upgraded onto the "nicer" boat. We picked a bad day as every other day that week had been raining in Cairns and nice out on the reef except the day we chose to go. It was cloudy and rained a little bit, but we still had some excellent snorkelling, which is what it is all about in the end. We saw loads of colourful fish and sting ray. The fish aren't bothered by you at all and still come swimming up to you. We saw giant clams, if you stuck your hand in there you'd lose it. We went on a semi-submersible boat, which had big glass windows, we got to see lots more fish, coral and a turtle. We were snorkelling off Michaelmas Cay Island. A sand island of which half is a bird sanctuary, so its just the birds and the sand and nothing else. I would have loved to stay out there snorkelling all day, there is so much to see. We went to Kuranda a village in the rainforest, we got the Skyrail (cable car) up there. All the hills were covered in a misty rain, we stopped off over Barron Falls, and looked around the village. It's very touristy but worth it to see the rainforest. We have finally sold our van. We are very sad to see it go, it got us half way around Australia and back, it's has done us well!
