After having had a continental breakfast in The Heritiage Hotel we headed down to the port and caught the local ferry to Devonport. From the wharf we headed uphill towards North Head and were helped by the strong winds behind us. Once on top we explored the underground tunnels from the Second World War and were able to look back at the fantastic views of Auckland. Once down the other side of the hill we were sheltered from the wind and it was quite warm as we climbed down the steps onto Clelteham Beach! We had coffee at McHughs of Cheltenham where the local were having their daily swim - a bit cold for us!
It was then back to Auckalnd on ferry and crossing was even rougher than when we went. We then did a walking tour of the city to see some of the highlights recommended in the guidebooks before returning to the hotel to update blog. In the evening we ate out at Occidental which had been recommended by the hotel - more self catering from now on though!
