More walking! I dont think my feet will ever recover from this trip!
Yesterday morning I walked around La Boca - cannot remember if I already wrote about that so I will add it into the next post if I havent.
In the afternoon I went on another free tour around Buenos Aires this time focusing on the rich and famous. And there was a great tale of a woman scorned. There was a lady who was super rich and a little mental as she had 17 children. She lived around this big square and a lot of the children did too so decided to build herself a big old church to be buried in. It was conveniently placed so that she could be seen from all over the square and instructed one of her sons to buy the land immediately infront of it so that noone could change the view. This son was a bit of a drinker and had an affair with a rich lady but married a different one (im a bit hazy on names). The first woman who got dumped bought the land infront of the grave church before the son did and she built a 33 story building inbetween the church and square,Bit of an expensive way to get revenge but there we go!
Me and Emily (who i met on the tour I did a couple of days ago) went to have a wonder around Palermo - one of the districts of BA, The Blackheath of BA you could say. Saw a mini carnival with people playing the drums and then headed back to her lovely guest house before going to a steak place for dinner. I know, I know! It was AMAZING though. About ten pounds for a glass of red wine and a steak and chips. Mmmmm. Got the bus back to my hostel and walked through one of the main downtown streets which was still buzzing with people selling their goodies and putting on shows even though it was 1.30am! mental city.
Today I had a lasy morning as it decided to rain again but in the afternoon I met with Emily again and we went for a walk around San Telmo where there is a great market on a sunday. Loads of antiques shops and stalls and tango/guitar shows on the corners. San Telmo is the oldest area of BA so there were loads of cobbled streets which were very pretty. Went into a little cafe which looks like it hasnt been redecorated since the 1920s and I had a ´Mate´. This is a type of hot drink which is a major social thing in Buenos Aires so I was really keen to try it. They make up a pot of it and then share around using a little silver straw.
All i had was a tea bag and hot water. Basically green tea! Glad I had some but a little disappointed really.
We then went to Galeria Pacifico - an ornately decorated mall which is quite pretty. And then to Recoleta - another area of BA where there is a massive sculpture of a flower which opens in the day and mechanically closes at night. We saw it closed but it was still pretty impressive.
The last thing I did today was to go to the oldest underground station in the Southern Hemisphere and ride on the original trains! Really pretty and wooden. Built in 1913 I think. Pretty darn old!
That is all for today. Sounds busier than it was. All I really did was wander around aimlessly! Though I did manage to be vegetarian to counteract the bad karma which was heading my way due to the huge amount of beef! Sorry planet.

Martin Have the clouds cleared enough for you to see the Sothern Cross yet? Then you really know you are in the upside down part of the world.... Did you look round the Boca Juniors football ground? Keep trying the vegetarian bit - it is lonely up here on the moral high ground :-) Mx
Louise my friend maria (who is from argentina) always drinks mate, and i dont think you should be dissapointed because the one she made me drink was absolutly vile! i would have been much happier with green tea! xxxx
Alexandra Just sitting here in History.... Miss Birch (My History Teacher) says she is green with jealousy... she said.. have you eaten steak, tangoed and had red wine yet? Also are you going on the Patagonia Express? xx

Victoria Loving that everyone is reading this! Pressure on keeping it up though. Alexandra - yes to the steak and red wine. Watched the tango not partaken Louise - the drink was ok just not what i thought it was going to be! Martin - i have a spinach empanada for lunch today so vegetarianism is still going strong! x
Carol Livingstone Hi I am soo envious. I loved Argentina so much, the thought of all the steak, red wine and Empanadas. I am droolling at the thought. Keep up the blogging, it keeps us fellow travellers reminising. Carol X
