Well I guess this is Day Two. Though really this was the first big day. Saying goodbye to Mum and Alex at the airport last night was hard but in my head all I was doing was getting on a plane. This morning, despite getting a fair amount of sleep on the plane it really kicked in. Getting off the plane made me want to vomit I was so scared! Dont ask!
Got talking to a guy from France on the bus from the airport to the hostel so after checking in we decided to meet in a couple of hours for a wonder around: (THE PUNCTUATION ON THIS KEYBOARD IS IMPOSSIBLE: I DONT WANT TO BE IN CAPS LOCK ATM!)
i went for quick look around the surrounds and kid you not i almost cried in the middle of the plaza de mayo - pretty big square. Got over it by eating a sandwich though! Stomach continues to rule. Saw the Casa Rosada which is where Eva Peron used to address the crowds from - a nice pink building! Photos to follow as I cannot find a USB socket on this computer. Also went inside the Cathedral Metropolitana where the tomb of Jose de San Martin (the guy who granted Argentina independence) tomb is. I saw the changing of the guards (including sword use) inside a catholic church. Very strange.
Went back and met Henrick (or something to that effect. I cant remember his name, He knows mine. Very awkward). We explored more of the surrounds and found a nice little place to have a beer. OH MY GOD it is muggy and disgusting here so beer was gooood. Also Henrick (?) is fluent in Spanish so can order with no problem. Very useful! We also saw a demonstration which happens at 3.30 every thursday. The mothers of sons who were taken away during the miltary dictatorship protest every week and have done for years. It was very serene though with the mothers being given bottles of water and straws as they marched to make sure they didnt dehydrate!
There are alot of people sleeping everywhere I have noticed. Not just homeless people. And tonnes of pidgeons though this can probably be explained by the fact that they tend to feed the pidgeons. The people may be outnumbered.
THink I will stay in the hostel tonight. There is a bar and food joint and I met one of the girls from my dorm who I think will be around so that could be nice.
All in all a good day. Apart from the OMG freaking out moment earlier I think I am doing pretty well with this whole thing. I even managed to understand an ATM. Fingers crossed for the rest of the trip!
