I have done so much since I last wrote!
On monday evening I went to ´La Bomba de Tiempo´ with the hostel, which was an outdoor drumming show. Really really cool music and the atmosphere was like a festival... or carnival if you will! It only lasted a couple of hours but after a few of us went to a bar where there was a live ska band which was awesome. Baled out at about 1.30am and went back to the hostel since I had to get up`at 5.30 in order to check out before my day trip to Uruguay.
Got up at 5.30am, showered, packed, took my bedding off in the dark and with 5 people sleeping in the dorm and checked out. Got a taxi with a couple people also doing the day trip who I bumped into at reception and then got to the ferry port at 7am. THEN I found out that the return ferry at 5pm was cancelled and since my bus to the north of Argentina was at 8 I couldnt get the 8.30 ferry. All that lack of sleep for nothing!
Managed to get my money back but it meant I had a whole extra day in Buenos Aires to play with! Went back to La Boca.
La Boca is the weirdest place. It is in a dodgy area but since it is where the immigrants started living it is quite a tourist attraction. They painted their houses with left over paint from the port so the houses are multicoloured in amazing colours! And it feels like Disney got their hands on it because its like a zone in one of their parks. Tourists everywhere and artists/musicians/street entertainment everywhere. Nice but thoroughly artificial feeling.
Finally got onto the bus that eve and stayed on it for 18 hours. Not bad really. Dinner and breakfast served. Bed went to 150 degrees and three films were shown. Cant complain! When I arrived in Iguazu the heat hit me though. SO much further north and you could feel it. A bit cooler today though.
The hostel is a bit ramshackle but nice and sociable. And there is a pool!! Arrived at the hostel at the same time as a girl, Petra, so we have been exploring together ever since.
Iguazu today was emmence. Astounding, amazing, just everything you can imagine. The picture above shows some of it. Wow wow wow. You get a train across the park and there are designated trails around to see all the waterfalls. We also paid extra to go on a speed boat at the bottom of the falls. Basically we paid to get thoroughly soaked! Literally all of me was dripping but it was so worth it!
Going to the Brazillian side of the falls tomorrow to get a different perspective and then heading to Salta in Northwest Argentina on saturday - a 23 hour coach journey...! Was going to go through Paraguay but I havent met anyone who has gone through and I spoke to some people who werent keen so I am going to avoid it. Would have involved a 30+ hour coach too which I didnt fancy....
Will let you know how Salta is! xxx
