I got up today around 11 as I was so tired from my tour yesterday. I had a walk around Cairns and then booked myself on two day trips. Tomorrow I go on a tour of Cape Tribulation and the rainforest. On Sunday I'm doing a dive (only 30 mins) and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. I leave Cairns on Monday and head further down the coast towards Airlie Beach. The city of Cairns revolves around tourism; travel shops, tour companies, casinos, nightclubs, sailing and diving. There's a strange mix of tourists and locals (many locals seem to be old men with long hair, hats basically "Crocodile Dundee") I walked around the city and bought some sunglasses in the Cairns Plaza. I then headed back to my room and chilled out although it's hard as a couple who are staying in my dorm are constantly arguing. I was woken earlier this morning by: "Would you be quite for just ONE second!" and "You're taking so long it'll be bloody xmas soon". I sat down on my bed and reviewed my finances so far I've spent 1, 500 pounds here's the breakdown of where it went: 30% accomodation, 25% transport, 20% food, 10% attractions 10% alcohol 5% miscellanious (internet, phone etc) Dad I'm sure you're proud that I keep an eye on my finances like a good accountant's son! Anyway 2 Australians (Dane and Lee from Melbourne) moved into my dorm and after introducing themselves asked me if I wanted to go on the "Frog and Toad" Pub Crawl. I agreed as was on my own again, it was really good fun. We had free shots at each pub and there was the toad race. Me, Dane and an American girl at our table chipped money in so we could buy a toad and enter into the race. Guess what? Our toad won! Yes Toadfish as we named him gave us a $50 bar tab!! There is a picture of us posing after winning unfortunately Toadfish was killed as sugar cane toads are a pest and so all are killed after the race!! We walked around the other bars such as Troppos, Mad Cow and a few other places including the infamous Woolshed where girls are allowed to dance on the bar top. Anyway me, Dane and Lee went back to the hostel at 2am and played pool for a while then went to bed.
