Neil's Round the World Trip!
Jack picked me up at the airport and navigated the busy rush-hour traffic. We got back to Albany and had breakfast. Margaret assisted me with my yellow fever jag which is costing $109; bloody hell! I had a hot shower which was great after spending the night on an Airport Terminal floor, believe me.
I think I might buy some hiking boots for my trek as there is a sale in an adventure sports outlet near Jack and Margaret's house. I updated the journal and sorted out all the dirty washing I've accumulated.
We went into Newmarket, an area in Auckland with lots of style bars, designer stores and restaurants. I got my yellow fever jag and also got malaria tablets for my trval between Bolivia and Argentina as I pass through malarial regions. So that was an extra $20 for my malaria tablets but it's better to be safe than sorry. Also I got my UN health book which means I can go from country to country without much hindrance as if you have not been vaccinated most countries don't let you in.
I never bought hiking boots as I'm a fussy bizum, I'm also hurting having paid such an amount for my vaccination.
Ok so today is my last full day in New Zealand so here it is:
BEST BITS
Having some cool relatives that live on the other side of the globe; magnificent hospitality!
Meeting great people on the Stray Tour-sweet as bro!
Skydiving over Lake Taupo
Jumping off a canyon in Queenstown
Cruising up Milford Sound fjord (and it was sunny!!)
Sampling the varied New Zealand beers-really good
The very Scottish city of Dunedin
Seeing Auckland and the surrounding areas
Thermal village in Rotorua
Maori cultural evening; learning the haka!
Hot water beach under the moonlight and the Coromandel Peninsular in general.
Climbing the Franz Josef Glacier!
Driving through absolutely breathtaking scenery!
WORST BITS
The stingiest fish supper I've ever had...gurnura fish is the length of your index finger!
Express bus not operating despite being told otherwise.
The eggy smell of Rotorua.
My Russian haircut experience.
Nearly losing my rental car's keys.
Lack of ozone making my skin toast more easily!
Lack of Nightlife in Christchurch and Queenstown.
