Merry Christmas and a happy new year!!
I cant belive we are now in 2011. it has been an eventful year and very unexptected!!
i have put on some new photos of our summer holidays-we left melbourne on Boxing and headed to Wilson's Promortory, which is about 20km south of Melbourne. It's a volcanic outpost that is a beautiful holiday spot-its the southernmost point of the mainland. We stayed at a place called Shallow inlet-bush camping, as we couldnt actually get into the site at Tidal River, which is the main place in WP.
We had a great drive down there and set up camp easily. Santa brought us lots of pressies for our camping hols so we were lucky! Having a chef as husband meant that we ate luxury camping dinners-probably even luxury dinners without being camping!Yummy steak on the bbq followed down by a cold beer or two! It was really windy there but the sun shone so it was all good. In the evening we drove down to Tidal river for a walk arohnd and then had a visist to squeaky beach. It is stunning down there but you have to book in June to even get considered for a camping spot so thats why we had to stay out of it.
The rain came that night which meant we had to pack the tent away in the rain and wind which wasnt much fun. We decided to get off as early as possible and maake it to our next destination-Lakes Entrance. The rain followed us all the way there on the 3 hour drive and stopped about 30mins after we had re-set up the tent. We really like Lakes Entrance, its about a 4 hour drive from melbourne along 90 mile beach. Dale has been there many times on his family holidays as his dad was born not far from there. So, thankfully the weather cleared up and we didnt have to pack away in the rain again. we were lucky that that was the only bad weather we had the whole holiday. After that the weather was beautfuil all the time-sunshine and no rain!! It makes all the difference when you are camping!
So after Lakes Entance we drove another 2 hours to Mallacoota which is on the border of NSW and VIC. It is a small country town based on the estuary. It is so good there and the camp site we stayed at was on the foreshore. We had a go at fishing but they proved elsuive to us!! i think they must have been full! Its a great place but you really need a little boat to make the most of the water. You should see the pelicans! they were huge. You cant believe that they can even fly! The remind me of Hurricane aircarft with their big bellies.
Eden was our next destination, only an hour away from Mallacoota. The Camp site there was unreal-really tropical with palm trees, beautiful lush green grass, all kinds of birds, swimmimg pool, mimi golf and so much more-it was great! The sites were just big too which means you dont feel like you are living on top of your neighbours. We spent most of the time down the beach on the body board catching the waves. Eden is famous for its seafood so one day we bought some fresh flathead which dale made into a beautiful meal for me-luxury dining! We spent one day in Merimbula-the next town along the coast-a smalll town but much more touristy and much busier too.
that part of the coast is stunning with long sandy beaches, snorkelling areas and small surf. probably one of my favourite places. i wish we had stayed there longer but we moved on to myrtleford-a small town in the centre of VIC.a seven hour drive later we were there-it had to be one of the longert drives ever!!we had to go through the vicotiran alpines-where the snowfields are. it is beautfuil but the drive was so slow on the winding roads up and back down the mountain. we stayed in myrtlleford for 3 nights with all of Dale's brothers and family which was nice. then we arrived home on 4th Jan and luckily the weather has stayed fine and sunny. Off downt he beach tomorrow and we are taking th body board and picnic. we are back to work on monday after 2 weeks off. It seems like summer has fnally arrived for us...thankfully we havent been affected by the floods.
i have put up some photos too of our hols x
