We arrived in Kuala Lumpur and quickly set about sorting out our Indian visas. However, after a 30 minute taxi ride with the worlds rudest taxi driver, we found that it was an Indian National Holiday. Excellent.
So the next day we decided to find an agency that could hopefully do the hard work for us. Turns out if your not a Malaysian citizen they aren't too keen on giving you a visa. Not quite the news we wanted to hear, fingers crossed Australia is more helpful.
That afternoon we decided to head up the KL tower. This is a stupidly tall building (especially for those who aren't keen on heights) in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. For not much extra we were able to get high tea in the revolving restaurant. It was a really amazing view, and with a massive slab of chocolate cake plus free flowing tea - we were in our element!
The next few days were a blur of shopping centres and eating. There doesn't seem to be as much to offer here as Singapore had, but then that's not always a bad thing when you're trying to be careful with your cash.
We spend time looking around the city, and got to see the Petronas Towers up close - unfortunately we didn't go up them. Maybe on our next visit!
Our final day in Asia we decided to head out of town and visited the Batu Caves. These are Hindu cave temples. Once you have climbed the 272 steps you are able to see various shrines within the caves. It was a really nice day, and nice to get away from the city.
Kuala Lumpur marks the end of our overland adventure and also five months since we left home. Next stop, Melbourne. Only for a day though as we have 3 weeks in New Zealand before travelling around Australia properly. Asia has been absolutely amazing and we feel so lucky to have seen so many things, but we are looking forward to a bit of western culture. Well Sarah is mostly.
Chips and pizza all the way!
