Hello amigos!
Here we are on our final day in Chiang Mai, before we head back to Bangkok then down to the islands. Yesterday we went to see the hill tribes - long necks and big ears. They were rather scary and didn't talk - just kind of stared in a weird manner into our camera lense! Talking of camera we have just tried to upload the photos unsuccessfully so we are going to have to wait until the islands and hopefully someone will help us there - we are computer illiterate.
Yesterday afternoon we went white water rafting! We were in a team of four, us 2 and Martin and Paddy from Ireland (nothing like a stereotypical irish name eh?). As we set off we thought we were in for an easy ride, the river was really calm and we hardly had to paddle. Hahahahahaha.
After 10mins, our one-eyed, mowgli look-a-like guide/captain was shouting commands like something out of "the river wild" film! Forward, back, get down! heave! While we couldn't stop laughing, the poor irish guys had to do the work at first - but we got into the swing of it. At one point, on the biggest waterfall, all we could do was sit in the dinghy, and stare ahead as we crashed into huge boulders and became engulfed in water. No one was hurt tho and it was hilarious!
There were 6 boats who all raced each other down the river - each time we passed each other we soaked the other team. Our team seemed to be the loudest and finished a modest 2nd out of 6.
By the time we reached dry land we were soaked from head to toe but it was well worth it. We almost capsized twice and Kim in particular has a few battle scars!
Tonight we head off on the ever so lovely overnight train. Very sad, but we are actually looking forward to it!
We will upload the piccies asap. Thanks for the messages.
Lots of love to everyone
Megs and Kim x x x x x x x x x :)
