So Koh Lanta what we can we say? It was soooo quiet! We stayed for 3 nights only as we were so bored. We met some guys on the boat over there, two English blokes, a dutch guy and a Canadian. We all decided to head over to the same hotel as we were offered a free taxi and the promise of a nice pool by a tout on the boat. Your natural insticnt is to not trust these touts for fear of beinmg scammed but this turned out well, we got a bungalow for 800 baht and the pool was brand new and lovely! We all decided to stay there and jumped in the pool straight away. We met up later that night after we ate tea at a quaint little family owned place (the kids, aged 8-10 were waiters!) we had bbq baracuda with salad and jacket potato for a small price of 179 baht! Then we met up with all the guys and headed for drinks where we English tried to explain 'my big fat gypsy wedding' and various other UK TV (Gok Wan - a chinese guy who used to be fat, now is thin and gets womens boobs out on TV haha) programmes to the dutch and Canadian. We then headed to a bar called the funky Monkey bar, which had an excellent thai live rock band, and the boys played pool pretty much all night leaving Becky watching the band. There were only about 8 people in the whole bar and we got talking to a Swedish guy who has travelled up through Malaysia from Bali, and he was shockingly like a blonde version of Becky and Ash's friend Jordan, it was hilarious! We were so shocked how quiet the island was and were all grateful we met eachother and had people to hang out with.
The next day we spent a lot of time writing blog entries, calculating how much money we had spent so far (too much) and sorting through photos. Then we decided to head to a Thai boxing match with the others, we piled into the taxi and the stadium was dead, it had been cancelled! We luckily got our money back and decided to get beer and drink in the hotel bar. The boys had much fun chatting while Beck was occupied by the owners little girl, she was obsessed with Becks glasses and glasses case, and she took some photos for us(babysit for a free room maybe?). The thai kids were so entertaining, running round until really late with bare feet, trying to climb all over us and causing mayhem. We then decided to head to a bar nearby called Galaxy which had some sort of party on. There was a few people but it was by no means busy and Beck and Ash started to wonder what they would do when the boys all left to go on their various journeys the next day.
The next day we chilled by the pool and booked a boat to Railay beach which would take 2 and a half hours. We went out for tea and spent far too much money having our first 3 course meal of the trip, went to a bar which was empty and went home defeated and bored! We were seriously missing the livliness of Phi Phi. As our journey goes on you really miss the company of others and on Phi Phi we seemed to make new friends every night. On Lanta it was dead, so we decided to try a new place! One of the best things about travelling is meeting people from all over the world and hearing their different stories, and on Lanta there was a slim chance of this!
