As we woke to this special day the sun was shining and there was not a cloud to be seen. Today is Penny's birthday, a special day in the Palace of Muggleton (Adamson). A special delivery arrived in the form of a coffee from Stacey. Once we were organised, we walked to California Adventure Park, next to Disneyland. Here we explored more "lands" in the hunt for thrills and adventure. With a few rides not running we found the little mermaid ride a good starting point. Shortly afterwards, Grizzly's River Run opened. After the 3rd run the kids had found their new favourite ride. We dragged them away and with their confidence high they tackled the Incredicoaster. This is a rollercoaster with a loop. At take off the faces quickly changed from nervous to excited. With Stacey and Sue in support they loved it and would have gone again if they were not hungry. After lunch we hit Radiator Springs for some cars adventures. With the main ride closed we jumped in Luigi's dancing cars for a spin. After exploring more of the park and finding that many rides were closed or had waiting times of 55 miuntes or more we headed back to Grizzly's River Run and did a few more turns. This time it appeared to be running faster which in turn resulted in us getting wetter.
With no more to offer we left California Park and went back into Disneyland. Splash Mountain was closed so we went to Fantasyland and Penny and Tilds rode Dumbo's Flight for her birthday. They then jumped on the Carousel. As we left, the Matterhorn rollercoaster wait was shorter so we thought a quick run would work. The bobsled took 6 so Stacey, Sue, Emily, Matilda, dad and I made a team. It didn't look that bad, but once we got to the top and started racing down, the twists and turns were quite dramatic and probably not the best for someone with a prior heart condition. Dad soon realised that this ride may not have been a good idea and Stacey and I couldn't stop laughing as a littany of expletives and exclamations came from the very back seat of the ride. The kids liked it but it took dad some time to get the BP back to normal. Mental note, Matterhorn not suitable for persons with heart issues. We had a nice walk back to the hotel before heading out to Tony Roma's for Penny's birthday dinner.
It was a rib fest for most of us and Penny had a beautiful steak. She even got a surprise cake for dessert with a candle after we told the waiter it was her birthday. Happy birthday boss!
