Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
After getting a few hours sleep we got up and still caught the end of the hotel buffet breakfast. We love the Magnolia Hotel - it is a small boutique hotel with only about 40 rooms located in the main shopping district. We planned to do a walking tour in the afternoon so we headed out to find where we were to meet the tour. We walked around the very busy downtown shopping area for over an hour. It was very clean and modern and looked just like most North American cities except for some 19th century ornate buildings. We headed back to the hotel to rest before our "free" walking tour. A company here does free tours and expects only tips. The recommended tip is $10 per person - pretty good deal. The tour lasted about 3.5 hours and the guide, Phillipe, was quite good. He is a part time actor so our group of about 20 could hear him well. Half way thru the tour we took a break at a bar/restaurant. Most of the group stopped for a drink. We asked where we could find some ice cream. The guide told us the best was right around the corner - he was right. After the tour we rested for while and then went out for a light dinner of just salad, sea food empanadas, and the mandatory pisco sours at a sidewalk restaurant.
