Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
What we expected to be a long and tiring day of travel turned out to be not so bad. Our flights from Cusco thru Lima to Santiago started at 5:00 PM and ended in Santiago at 3:15 AM. Our transfer to the Cusco airport was not until 2:30 so we took the opportunity to take a sightseeing bus tour around Cusco in the morning. The area surrounding Cusco is quite pretty. We went way up a hill where we saw some more Inca archaeological sights and a smaller version of Christ the Redeemer. We then headed to the airport. The longest wait was in Lima where we had almost a 4 hour layover. It went fairly fast - the international terminal is huge and we were able to have a relaxed meal at a very reasonable price. On the 3.5 hour light to Santiago we both napped some and were were surprised that they served a hot dinner at that time of night. The most amazing part of the trip was that we landed at 3:15 and were in our hotel room by 4:15. No wait at immigration, baggage claim, customs or getting a cab. We slept in till 9:00 so we are not too tired.
