Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
Somehow it seems wrong to set the alarm when on vacation, but yesterday it was worth it. We got up at 6:30 to see a gorgeous sail in towards the Amalia Glacier. It was cloudy and quite chilly (cold) but just as we arrived at the glacier the sun came out to shine on it. The ship stayed there doing 360's for about an hour. The rest of the day was a relaxing sea day. It has been too cold for us to do much outside. Hopefully it will warm up after we get around Cape Horn.
We decided to do traditional late dining this trip which is at 8:00 PM. This allows us to catch an early show, eat and then hit a late show at 10:00 to 10:15. Out 1st night dining experience was less than enjoyable. The food and service were great, the company not so much. Our tablemates were a couple from the UK, a single guy from the UK and a mom traveling by herself from the USA. The 3 from the UK essentially ignored us, talking mostly to themselves. We tried several times to start a conversation but after a few short statements, they went back to their own conversation. The mom from the USA was very quiet, so Bonnie and I talked to each other. As we were leaving we asked the head waiter to seat us at a different table. The next night we were seated with 3 couples from the UK and have had great time each night. We normally don’t talk politics while on the cruise but it has been interesting to talk about their perspective on The Donald (it is mixed but leans towards positive) and Brexit. They voted 5 to 1 for exit.
Today we were in Punta Arenas, Chile. Again it was cloudy and cool. There is not a great deal to do here unless you want to take a long ride to see penguins. We have seen enough penguins to we walked the town for about 3 ours. It is a clean modern town with lots of shops and restaurants. We found a grocery store where we replenished the wine supply and went back to the ship for a late lunch.
