We woke in the morning feeling nasty from the hot night and lack of sleep. We quickly got ready and happily checked out of the hostel, glad we hadn't booked for longer. We then walked over to our new place and checked in.
Getting to the room we were overjoyed to have a big bed, ac and a nice ensuite bathroom. We spent the morning looking for flights and trying to plan the next legs of our trip. Flights after new years were expensive so we would probably have to stay in Rio for a few days longer. After a while I started to get hungry so we went out in search of food.
It was Christmas eve and everything was quite quiet. There were a few displays set up on Ave Paulista that made it feel like Christmas. We walked up to the mall and found it had a big food court inside. We walked around and then got some food. I had a wrap and Shivani salad. After we went downstairs, attracted by the smell of coffee. There was a nice cafe there that did some good looking cakes. We ordered a couple and Shivani had coffee.
We then walked around and found an travel agent who gave us some advice on the Amazon and beach resorts. We then headed back to the hotel. I decided to get my haircut and went off to the barbers while Shivani did more research at the hotel. The guy cut my hair really well and even sorted out my beard.
I came back to the hotel and we did some more research on the computers, as we had to decide what we wanted to do and get organised.
After chilling for a while we decided to go out for some dinner. It was Christmas eve and I thought stuff would be busy. However when we got out we found that pretty much everything was closed. We ended up in the one place that was open. It was really busy and but we got a table quite quickly. The restaurant worked on an electronic card system which seemed a popular way in Brazil. We ordered pizza and got a bottle of wine. The pizza was very cheesy but it did the job. After Shivani got some icecream.
We then decided to walk home as it didn't look like there would be anywhere else to go. We walked down Paulista, which was busy with people and families. Shivani was a little drunk and we took some pictures with the Christmas decorations. Midnight came, a few fireworks were set off and people honked there horns. It was a nice atmosphere and after walking around a bit we headed back to the hotel and went to sleep.
