We woke up in the morning and got up to have breakfast. We took a leisurely one, making sure we took advantage of the good breakfast. We then went to the room and packed our things ready to checkout. We were a little early and watched tv till it was time to go. We then tools taxi to the bus station and waited for the bus.
The bus came on time and we boarded and lucky managed to swap seats with someone so we could sit together. The bus was surprisingly quite comfortable and we were soon on our way. We listened to Sherlock Holmes audiobook to pass the time. The journey took quite long as there was some traffic, a 20 minute stop where we bought food, and a nasty car accident.
We eventually got into Sao Paulo at about 7pm. The bus station was huge and very busy. We put on our packs and decided to look for a bus to Paraty which would be a nice stop on the way to Rio. We asked around but it seemed no buses would be running between Christmas and new years when we would want to go. So we gave up and headed for the hostel.
We decided to take the metro and after asking for info and getting a map, we were soon on our way. Sao Paulo was supposed to be a dangerous city but it seemed safe to me and the metro was easy to use and probably better than a taxi. We soon got to our stop and found our hostel.
The hostel was not very nice but we had our own room so thought it would be okay. We checked and gave our laundry for washing. We chilled in the room for a bit but it was quite hot and there was no fan or a/c. The bathroom was also not nice, as it was just a wet room with a shower very close to the toilet.
We decided we didn't want to stay here for long so Shivani found another hotel close by and we went to check it out. This place was much nicer, for not much more money, and as our hostel didn't have the atmosphere we wanted we decided to book the hotel for the rest of our stay.
We then went to find something to eat and headed for the Japanese district. We took the metro and after consulting the guide book found the street with all the restaurants on. Sao paulo had the biggest Japanese population outside Japan and we found some very authentic restaurants. We picked the busiest one and after a small language struggle managed to order. We had tempura, noddles with tofu, goyza and some sushi and shashimi. The food was good and there was a nice atmosphere in the place, I really enjoyed it.
After dinner it was pretty late, we decided to go home and took the metro to the hostel. Getting to the room, we found it to be really hot. We didn't have water and that coupled with the noise during the night meant we had a really bad nights sleep.
