We woke up late as we didnt have to check out for once. After getting ready, we organised to go to a tango show in the evening, as we hadn't gone to the milonga last night. The receptionist was very helpful and managed to organise the show and transfers.
We then headed off to the Sunday market in San Telmo. We took the metro there, getting off at the central square to go and visit the presidential palace. We tried to go in but Shivani couldn't go in because she was wearing flip flops. I went in and had a quick look round. There was a guided tour that would have shown the main highlights but there was a long queue and it would take 40 minutes. You couldn't see very much without going on the tour so I quickly came out and we headed for the market.
When we got there we found it was huge and people were not all selling the same thing. Shivani saw some interesting things that she thought would go well in the house but we couldn't carry them round for the next four weeks so didn't get them. It was really hot again and we moved slowly through the crowds.
We came across a BBQ that smelt really good and I had a really good sausage sandwich from there. Shivani was hungry too and we stumbled across an Indian restaurant and decided to stop there. Shivani had the lunch menu while I had a beer. The food wasn't too good although Shivani did enjoy the ras malai, jambo and icecream dessert. The meal took quite long and after we finally paid we set off into the market again. We eventually came to the main square of the market which had mainly antiques stalls. We walked round and them went into Starbucks to cool off in the a/c. Shivani had a frapachino while we planned our next move.
We decided to head to La Boca which was colourful neighbourhood but apparently dangerous in places. We decided to walk there and after crossing the park found ourselves in outskirts of La Boca. I felt a little uneasy there and we quickly walked through and past the boca juniors stadium to the tourist streets.
These were a big contrast to the rest of the area and were filled with tourists, colourful houses, restaurants and street performers. We walked round for a bit, taking pictures, before taking the bus back to our hostel.
When we got back we relaxed for a bit before heading out for a quick dinner before our show. It was early (7pm) and not all the restuarants were open but we found a place close by and I had an okay steak with good chips and Shivani some pasta.
We then had an icecream before waiting at the hostel for our pick up. The guy came on time and took us to our show. When we got there we were taken to our seats and waited while others finished there dinners. We had an expensive drink before the show started.
The show was in quite a small stage but consisted of some tango dancing and singing followed by a traditional gaucho show and music before more tango. It was quite good but also spoiled by a couple next to us who were really loud and annoying throughout the show.
By the end I was pretty tired and glad to go home. We got into the van and watched all the other people get dropped off at fancy hotels before we got dropped at our hostel. It was late and I was tired and fell straight asleep.
