My friend, Scott and I have been keeping our eyes out for a ziplining deal for a while. We finally both managed to get a Groupon a couple months ago, but we had to use it by Nov. 5. After comparing ours and Scott's twin, Matthew's schedules, we finally settled on today for our zipventure.
Our adventure started out a bit rocky, as the zipline company did not receive our reservation. Somehow with the dogs barking, they did not hear that we wanted to zip at 1:00, so instead we had to take a 4:00 time instead. This was pushing it to get back in time for Jenni's big reveal.
We decided to head up early and poke around Mammoth Cave National Park. We were hoping to get a tour in, but the only short ones available were for the same time as our zipping, and the ones departing soon were too long for us to make it back in time. If you ever go to Mammoth Cave, make sure you make a reservation in advance! It was very cold by the entrance, so bring a jacket! We did a little half-mile loop by the natural entrance.
We got to the ziplining place a bit early, and the Mammoth Cave Adventure people let us go ahead and go. YES! They have 5 ziplines on the normal course, and then they also have a course for smaller more lightweight people (children). I didn't realize that being light causes ziplining problems, but it makes it hard to get across some of the lines. We were a little disappointed with the "sky bridges" as they were just short walkways from the ground to the tree tops. For some of the lines, we had to assume certain positions to make it across. It was fun watching everyone go. There was one lady that I wish I had a video of! Scott took some pictures and video with his Go Pro camera, but I haven't seen them yet. It was so fun! I wish there had been a couple more lines.
After the zipping, we went to another area for the Super Swing. Here's the description from the Groupon site: "A rope elevates riders 35 feet in the air, where the pull of a release cord plunges the apparatus back toward the ground. G-forces take hold of bodies and tousle hairdos before enormous cables swing riders back into the air, unveiling scenic vistas of a ridge below." I thought we would be swing out over a cliff or something, but it was just over a hill in the forest. It definitely gives you that adrenaline rush and feeling of how am I going to survive this! I must admit that I screamed a little. I couldn't help it! If you are thinking of doing it, don't worry...the operator is the one and only Cellophane Psycho, so I'm sure it's fine.
I got back just in time for Jenni to reveal that she's having...a girl!
