Yesterday while driving through Kentucky my Check Engine light came on. I replaced my radiator in the past couple of weeks, and I had my oil changed, tires rotated, and fuel injectors cleaned just before leaving Nashville. Sarah's dad recommended a place down the street from Sarah's house, so we dropped my car off before going to grab some breakfast. We ate at a cute little mom & pop place that had very yummy and sometimes hard to find Eggs Benedict. After that we ran some errands while waiting to hear from the mechanic.
Around 10:30 the mechanic called to say that the error code was my transmission. He said my transmission was slipping in the upper speeds and probably needed to be replaced. He knew I was just travelling through, so he recommended servicing the transmission and putting some additives in that might help get me to Colorado. A couple hours later I had my car back and was back on the road.
I tried to keep my speed down (around 55 MPH) while driving through Missouri and Kansas to hopefully prevent more problems. My Check Engine light did come back on during a moment when I went around someone. I had several friends and family checking in during my drive, so I asked them all to pray that I would make it to Colorado. My mom was told once that cleaning the fuel injectors can sometimes cause temporary transmission problems, so I'm hoping that is the case.
One of my sweet friends from church connected me with a friend of hers in Kansas for my second night, but the delay in travel meant that there was no way I would make it to her place on the other side of Kansas at a reasonable hour. I resolved to just drive as far as I could.
I stopped for dinner in Topeka and picked up a few toiletries since I forgot those in Tennessee. I listened to Dune while I was driving, but my Kindle is not very loud and the some of the characters were hard to hear. I really want to finish it, but I will have to do that later. I stopped for the night in Abilene.
