Well what else would a good catholic boy living 500 metres from the Vatican do on Palm Sunday? - well this one got up at 11am nursing a splitting headache whilst the women folk trotted of to the Vatican for mass. Herein lies the flaw in religion they get all dressed and organised and head off and I drag my sorry arse out of bed and pop the Telly on whilst consuming a nice strong latte and watch the Pope (sans Pope - not Italiano) say mass in the comfort of my couch in my reggies and sipping a cup of the Bialetti's finest whilst the devout womenfolk return armed with a heap of pastries and quote "couldn't be bothered with the crowds". Oh well at least one of us managed to fulfill the obligation of mass on Palm Sunday - even if beamed by the magic of RAI. In the afternoon we all went back and I just continue to be gobsmacked at the enormity and intricacy of these buildings in Rome. St Peters square is massive and I feel its impossible to convey it's size without losing something in translation. You could plonk the MCG in the middle and it would look like a dinner plate. Whilst not a devout Catholic I am glad I took the opportunity as I am sure my uncle would have loved to have made it but I am sure was with me today in spirit. Only 2 more days in Rome and so much to see maybe thats why people believe in the coin in the Fontana di Trevi works but it is a myth. It's the fact you could spend a month in Rome and still miss so much which brings you back. Looks like the travel bug is biting already.
