Early start today as we did a 12 hour day tour. We left London and drove past Kensington Palace, and saw the residence of Kylie Minogue on Hyde Park. Our tour guide Dan was full of interesting facts about England and it's people. A survey was conducted for the Olympic Games in 2012 which concluded that given how multicultural it is, the only language not spoken by anyone living in England is the language of Morocco. Our first stop of the tour was to see William Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford Upon Avon. He had a vocabulary of 24,000 words compared to the average 5,000. He also created many words, one on particular was 'zainy.' That was pretty cool. 70% of the structure and items were original. We had a scone and a glass of champagne here. We drove through Cotswolds or "range of hills", saw Prince Charles' cottage, as well as the cemetery where Roland Hill was buried who created the postage stamp. Some say his grave was on the top right hand corner! We also learnt that the word 'sheriff' comes from the person who looks after a shire is called a 'reef' (both words merged together). We had lunch at Bath, saw the abbey, the famous 'Roman Baths' - such a pretty place! We found a nice fudge store where we saw them make it. We then drove on to Stonehenge, quite chilly by this point. It was really fascinating to see and they had a good museum also. It was well worth the trip. We then headed back after a long day, to then pack and head to bed for yet another early morning as we move on to Ireland. One more random fact to end the day - England's murder rate is 0.6% per 100,000 people, that compares to a rate of 0.3% in Spain and 3% in America...no surprise there!
