From Bishops Waltham we braved the weather and headed to Wales.
First stop was a famous bridge, The Clifton Suspension Bridge built between 1836 and 1864. This bridge spans the Avon gorge and river near Bristol.
From Bristol we crossed the Brecon Beacon National park and Black Mountains where there are remains of old Lime Kilns and mine sites, finishing up at a cousins place near Brecon.
Here we learnt a lot about Michael's family history and marveled at Michael's cousin's woodworking skills, he has carved the most intricate Welsh Love Spoons we have ever seen, amongst other fine works.
From Brecon it was onto visit friends in the Wynnstay Inn in Llansilin, we had stayed here six years earlier, but this would be the last time as the friends will be getting out of the Inn in 2020. A bit sad really.
We stayed for two nights and did a day trip to Llanberis to catch the train to the top of Mount Snowdon, only to find when we arrived that all the tickets on all the trains for the day had been sold. That's what happens when the sun comes out!
Not knowing what to do on finding this out, we were pleased and surprised to learn there was a Slate Museum near by. We had heard that Wales was known for its slate, but didn't realise one of its largest mines was here.
So we spent most of the day looking through this incredible museum and learning about slate. The museum is housed in the old workshops of the Dinorwic slate quarry that operated for over 200 years on this site.
On saying farewell to our friends and the Wynnstay Inn we headed back to Michael's uncle's place in Far Coton where we are starting to wind down and get ourselves ready to head back to Perth.
