We were fortunate that we arrived in Dole early, we hadn't booked a campground and by the time we arrived, it was filling quickly and by the time we had dinner the place was full to overflowing.
We had a wonderful walk around Dole. The main draw point is a 15th century cathedral perched high on a hill in the middle of town. The town has a river running by with lots of boats, some flying Australian flags. On a canal running off the river were huge homes built in what looked to be old barges, like the English narrow boats on steroids and pumped up again, they were bigger than some homes, they even had letterboxes at the gangplank.
While the buildings were lovely, the cathedral was stunning, it had been restored recently and was beautiful.
We also enjoyed walking through a park where they had a evening market on, complete with entertainment. In this park we found a statue of Louis Pasteur, known for his work with vaccinations amongst other major achievements.
The following morning we were off to Germany and hopefully even nicer weather.
