After another great Moroccan breakfast it was off to explore the Bahi Palace, which had very intricate stone and woodwork and a nice garden. The place was overrun by tours though! So we headed off to explore the old streets of the Mellah- the Jewish quarter, where there were fewer tourists. I think we may have wandered into a gang area though as one of the locals was very keen for us to get out of there.
Next we headed through the streets to find the Saadian tombs, having some mint tea before hand at a terrace cafe overlooking a big stork nest. There were many storks flying around and two came and landed on the nest- amazing birds. A man was also releasing carrier pigeons from the rooftops. The tombs themselves were again very intricate and opulent.
We managed to negotiate a grande taxi, beat up old Mercedes supposedly meant to carry 6 passengers, to take us to Jardin Majorelle. This was an interesting garden dedicated to the city by Yves Saint Laurent. It had many cacti and striking blue and yellow features. We were caught in a sudden downpour so took refuge in the cafe!
That night we spent time planning out the next steps of our journey and dined at our Riad. It has been an excellent place to stay, Jnane Mogador, they have looked after us well and have a beautiful place!
