Last day in NYC today so feeling rather sad. Pleased i'm not going straight home and still have lots of other places to see first! The guy outside the hotel whistled for a cab to take me to the Empire State Building. You'd think i'd have been excited by this but I wasn't because he used an actual whistle! Cheat! Anyway got a military discount on a slightly more expensive ticket which bought me a ride on the New York Sky Ride, a simulated 'fly' over the city. Kinda trippy but a LOT of fun! Then took the lift to the 80th floor where i had to wait in another long line to get another lift to the 86th floor. Why two lifts i thought?? After a twenty minutes wait they announced that due to the high volume of people, they would allow who ever wanted to, to walk up the stairs, as though they were doing us a favour. Why dont they just have that option to start with?! I took the stairs, but all the fatty pie cake people stayed behind and waited for another half an hour for the lift!!
The view from the top was amazing. Just as good as rockefeller of course but less comfortable due to hoards of people and narrower platforms. And soon i got pissed off with being asked to take people's photos and with being bumped in to by loud American children, who i may add, are far more abnoxious and pricoscious than English ones! I have nicknamed them all 'damien'!
I made a move and took myself on a strole down 6th Ave also known as Ave of the Americas. Found some quirky little shops including a chocolate shop but i resisted temptation knowing anything i bought would'nt last two minutes in this heat. It did remind me however, about a bakery I was told about called Magnolias bakery who apparently do ths worlds best cup cakes, so i'll hunt that down later. Stopped for a spot of lunch on 50th st and some seeeerious rehydrating with 4 glasses of water and 2 glasses of ice cold diet coke. I chilled out for a bit, read my book, ate a big fat lunch to reload the calloroies I'd just walked off and then finished my afternoon with a look around Rockefeller Plaza.
It was then time to head back to the hotel, pick up my bag and make my way to the Hilton Newark Airport Hotel ready to meet my fellow Trek America travellers tomorrow. My time in New York had come to an end and there was still so much to see. May mean another trip. Damn!

Ma Gosh! Can't believe you've done The Big Apple at last, after all the false starts you've had!! The great thing doing it on your own is that you''ve been able to do whatever you like, when you like for as long as you like ..... what total bliss!! And now for the rest of America
Dad I'm glad you managed to show up all those fatty pie cake people by galloping up the last 15-20 floors using the stairs. Obviously still pretty fit. Is it cooler at the top than at ground level? Glad you enjoyed. Hope the next leg of the trip is as successful.
BRIAN PARKIN SO GLAD YOU ARE HAVING A BALL. DON'T FORGET THE FOOD HALLS.!!!!!!!!!
