Hey all
So apologies if I cannot keep this updated as quick as I would like, computers are not always free when you want or need them!
So in all I was in Mexico City for 4 nights. A very cool place and big city. Met some cool people who I will meet up with again at some point. Left on Monday with an 8 hour bus journey to the town of Oaxaca which is south of Mexico City. A pretty city and a lot smaller which is nice. Quite colonial and all the buildings are painted bright colours which is lovely to see. I arrived late Monday evening and travelled down with an Canadian girl I met in Mexico City. We found a lovely hostel and everyone here has been very friendly and helpful. On our first night we had a late dinner and a quick walk around the town. Tried the local taco restaurant which was fab. Good food and beer all for 2.50!! I was tired though so bed it was for me. Met a couple of British girls from Carlisle and two Aussie girls, all were great. Spend the following day taking in the town and sights with them. Visited the Cathedral and just generally had a walk around.
Oaxaca has some great markets and we spend quite a bit of time shopping! There are so many locals trying to sell you things including the local delicacy if you like of crickets (cannot remember the proper name!). Dried and salted though, luckily not live. I chickened out and did not try one though.. ah well. The girls I was with were leaving today, with only 10 days left of their year long trip they were buying for England, including some wrestling masks! Yes one of the local entertainments is wrestling would you believe, bit like WWF! They have a match tonight but unfortunatley I cannot go as I am leaving.
Got back to the hostel last night after being at one of the local food markets and we made dinner for the 6 of us which was great. Vegetarian tacos, delicious. They are made with a local Oaxaca cheese which is lovely. Very stringy and I can only compare it to Mozzarella. We all stayed at the hostel for the evening drinking red wine and getting to know each other before heading out to one of the bars. Turned out to be quite a late night and a few sore heads this morning. I have to say I did struggle trying to climb into my top bunk!! Yes it was a sight and a fit of giggles!
Spent today around town again and visited the local church of Santo Domingo. I have to say it was probably the most beautiful church I have ever seen, lots of amazing structure and gold leaf. Wish I could only post some pictures but the technology out here is limiting me some what but hopefully I will get around it at some point.
So I am leaving tonight, on a 12 hour bus journey to the surfer town called Puerto Escondido, in search of some sun! Weather so far has been sunny/mild/rainy but still good.
So folks that is it for now I am afraid.
Be back soon
Love to you all
