When we both woke up and showered we headed downstairs where we saw jackie on the sofas chilling. We sat there for a while drinking cup after cup of breakfast tea before heading out for a bite to eat. Jacky had said that she went to a small cafe at the top of love lane where they serve salmon and eggs so i was well up for that as you can't really find smoked salmon anywhere in Asia! We walked up and sat inside. It's a really small cafe which looks pretty cool and would fit right in in brick lane or shoreditch, quite a hipster place to chill. We ordered at the till; jacky and i both got the salmon and scrambled eggs with bread and daniel went for smoked duck and eggs. We sat inside while they played jazz music, honestly didn't feel like i was in malaysia at all!
Once we had all finished our posh brekkies we headed over to little india so i could show jacky where to buy bindhis and look for somewhere that does henna. I always love going to little india, as soon as you turn into the road there are small street stalls selling fresh curries and rotis as well as traditional indian desserts. The first shop we went to sold a lot of bindhis but they were priced at 2.90RM so we went to to the shop i visited before where most of them are 1RM. When we got there we were like kids in a toy shop as we rifled through the many packs of beautiful diamanté bindhis. Jacky ended up getting 10 packs and i got 8. We went inside to look at all the costume jewellery as well. They had hundreds of multicoloured bangles as well as loads of very yellow gold chains and extravagant pat butcher style earrings. They sold a few bits of make up so jacky bough a fake mac liquid eyeliner for 3RM which is around 70p! We asked the man behind the till where we can get mendhi done and he pointed us in the direction of an indian temple.
We found a beauty salon/indian tailor that advertised Henna so jacky and I went in while daniel went accross the road to buy some plasters as he's got a bad wound on his big toe. The small indian lady in the shop showed us lots of designs of henna that were drawn out onto paper but i didn't see the design that i wanted. Abi, who we met at Kong Lo Cave uploaded a photo of her henna which looked amazing and very different and i tried to explain it to the woman but when Daniel came in he said he Was going to pop back to the hotel to drop some stuff off as he bought an indian film on dvd that we were watching in kapitan the night before. He said he would take a photo of Abi's photo to show to the lady so in the mean time, jacky decided on a pretty pattern and sat down in the chair while the woman delicately applied the Henna. We had a long chat about her love life and her new love that she met while travelling called mawro; an italian man. Some girls came in while she was getting it done to look at different fabrics to make a sari. When jacky's henna was completed, we popped outside to sit down and have a cigarette. The henna looked very different to what i was used to, when it dried it looked purple as opposed to a dark brown. Daniel returned with a photo of the henna and so i showed the woman to get a rough idea and held the camera up for her to reference while she began. I chose to have it on my left hand as i don't use that one as much as my right and so hopefully it would last a little longer.
We then walked back to the hostel where we all sat on the sofa drinking tea and watching television. The ginger cat came to sit with us for a bit as well. I chose to sit outside in the sun after a while so i can boost my tan and jacky joined me as she skyped her italian stallion back home. More people had gathered outside with us so i went to skype mum while sitting on the steps. A guy saw her on my screen and said how similar we look, he's not wrong! We couldn't hear eachother properly because of the noise level so said goodbye to each other when one of the men at the table suggested to all go to dinner, or breakfast he said as he had just woken up. So daniel ran to put our ipads in the room and all 8 or maybe there was 10 of us began walking to dinner at our favourite spot; kapitan.
The big group of us walked through the side streets and through little india to kapitan. It was busy, as it always is and we made our way up the stairs to the air conditioned area and found a table big enough to accommodate us all. We were handed some of the menus which are completely haggard, you can barely read anything on some as it had all rubbed off but i knew what i was going for already; the tandoori chicken set with a cheese and garlic naan. Jacky, dan and i ordered a big bottle of water to share and the others ordered their drinks including banana and mango lassis. The food took a while to get to us as it was very busy for them and as dished began to arrive, there was confusion as to what people had ordered. There was a chinese man opposite me who was sat waiting for his food ten minutes after everyone else as he had forgotten what he had ordered and it turns out that steve, the german man beside him had his dish, good job he didn't start eating it! Very polite man! When our food came i couldn't help but pick at the chicken and naan as i was hungry and didn't want it to get cold. Jacky was doing the same across the table until we both thought sod it and began to tuck in using our fingers to rip and tear pieces of chicken and naan and dip them into the small section of daal on the tray.
Once everyone had finished eating we decided to head back to the hostel with a quick detour to the shop that sells three beers for ten ringit so one after the other we chose our selection of beers and paid at the counter. The man working there is old and chinese looking with a very long, grey hair growing out from a mole on the side of his face; maybe he is compensating for the dog who chills outside with alapecia. We walked through the road and onto love lane back to the hostel where we all pulled the tables together and sat around it. Kane got on a pushbike and cycled to his hostel where he lives to pick up his laptop and speakers so we could chill out to some music. Jacky and Zak sat by the laptop playing songs the whole night taking suggestions from others in the group. One by one people began to get tired after a few beers so went to bed. Kane went to roll a joint and so me, him, steve and the algerian man walked up the road and over the bridge above the road and sat down to smoke. Once the three of us had finished smoking we walked back to the others. I wasn't wearing shoes so was careful where i was walking.
We got to the others and continued to chill out and chat, jacky was playing a song which i loved by ornette-crazy (noze remix); absolutely love it. Not to mention the koh phangan and koh tao soundtrack by chet faker. The conversation turned onto politics as kane expressed his views on the banks as well as interest rates which was really interesting as he is very clued up on everything. We then began watching videos of beatboxers like beardyman and then reeps one, harry who i met back when i was doing a fundraising concert in walthamstow central! After half an hour of beatboxing, we fancied watching some Brian badonde which had us all laughing. It got to around 02:30 when we decided to say goodnight and have a good sleep.
