My alarm went off at 07:00 so i casually got out of bed and got dressed until i checked the time on my ipad and realised it was actually 08:22! The time on my phone didn't change, s***! We scrambled to get ready and leave but were in two mind whether to get a later boat. We rushed to reception to heck out and get a cab to the pier just to see if we could make it in time so the receptionist got Jimmy, the old red indian looking man at the hotel to drive us so we ran to his car and put our bags in the boot as he set off for the pier. On turning the corner we got caught in traffic, i could hear Daniel huffing and puffing and swearing to hinself in the back but i was not in the mood for his pathetic s*** so ignores him. When we pulled in to where the pier is we saw that the boat hadn't left yet so paid Jimmy 10RM and ran to check in where a woman asked us if we were going to langkawi and if we had our ticket so she told us to follow her. Thank god! If we missed the boat we would have to pay 10RM to ammend our ticket as well as notify the hotel that we would bot be arriving on that day as there is only one boat a day to langkawi! Panic was over as we handed the boatmen our bags and joined the que of arabs and chinese boarding the boat.
The journey took around three hours and i managed to get some rest as i was bloody nackered, i was also extremely thirsty as i didn't have time for a drink so really, the sleep took my mind off of the thirst. We pulled up at the pier and all filed out while collecting our backpacks that had been put in a pile. We walked through the port which was almost like an airport with duty free and cafes and restaurants before heading out into the sun where there were dozens of taxi drivers waiting for business. We popped into a minimart to get a can of res bull and approached a driver asking if he knew where "t-star cottage" is as i forgot to save the address, thankfully he did. We agreed on a price of 30RM before getting in. The journey was pleasant and the roads were very smooth and not very busy. It took us around 15 minutes to drive to the other town "cenang" which is where our hotel is and he pulled up outside, unloaded our luggage and took the money. The outside looks pleasant, the first thing is a walk way withh a red shelter and lots of beautiful plants before opening out into the area where reception is.
The atmosphere was very calm and peaceful with the trickling sound of water coming from the ponds nearby. The tv on reception was playing the quran which also added to the serenity of the place. I approached the woman at the desk with my name and she informed me that check in is at 15:00. Daniel was already in a foul mood and so this made him even worse, he began huffing and puffing and said some silly comment so we dropped our bags in the room behind reception and asked in which direction the beach is so we walked out and headed down. On the way daniel was complaining about the distance until i saw, on the road to the right the sea so walked towards it. The sea is nowhere near as crystal as the islands of thailand but the sand is soft and white. I sat down on a deckchair to try and regain strength from daniel's moaning. I stayed here for five minutes staring out into the view infront of me trying to keep it together before he started to pipe up again so like a mother disciplining a spoilt child i said "f*** it lets just go back and wait at reception then".
We made our way back and i sat on the wooden steps playing the kinghunt game on my ipad when the woman behind reception called me forward and said the room was ready so i paid her the 355RM (including a 100RM deposit) and she handed us the key. To get to the room was another sheltered walkway with mahogany bungalows either side and beautiful plants and trees as well as ponds homing vibrant orange fish. We stayed in the room for a while as the mood was dampened already but daniel went out to get a drink and come back.
Later that evening we decided to take a walk to find where the town is. We passed lots of restaurants and hotels that looked empty, some even had "closed" signs outside, you could tell it was low season. After walking for five minutes, we hit a main road and crossed over to continue as we noticed people walking in that direction. There were loads of seafood restaurants as well as a mexican place but it wasn't cheap at all which is why we were delighted to sea a mcDonalds and a mcCafe to the left. We shamelessly walked up the steps and into the air conditioned restaurant. I was undecided if i wanted chicken or beef so just got the same as Daniel; a big mac meal. The chips were perfect, soft and squidgy yet crisp at the same time. I managed to finished the burger but struggled with the chips as the portion size was large.
Once we finished, we popped into a duty free shop just next door; everything on the island is tax free so alcohol and cigarettes are dirt cheap. We bought 200 marlboro lights for 70RM which is around £14 as well as a bottle of raspberry flavoured Smirnoff for a tenner. I also bought a small elephant ornament as i forgot to get in in Thailand, it's black with sone designs sculpted on it and i plan to put it with the other elephant ornaments that i bought papa. We walked back to the hotel and chilled there literally doing nothing except drinking vodka and sprite and smoking. The room is very hot and sticky and there are monkeys everywhere , they always open the bin and steal bits of rubbish from inside.
