We woke up at 7:00 and walked with our backpacks up the hill after checking out. We had planned to go to monkey reublic for breakfast again but when we arrived, their shutters were down so, we went to a small cafe across the road instead for a quick brekkie. I ordered an iced mocha and bacon, beans, egg, toast and tomato which was nice. We then walked further down the road to where we had to meet for our boat. A western man approached us asking to see our ticket and said that we will be on the speed boat instead of the slowboat free of charge, i guess they overbooked. He told us to head down to the pier and get on the big white boat. When we got there there were a lot of people waiting to get on the boat, which made me think how the island can accommodate so many people as i'm sure people are arriving quicker than people leaving.
We got on the boat and got a seat near the edge so we had a good view. The journey took around 40 minutes until we slowed down and pulled into a beautiful lush green island decorated with quant beach shacks on the beach, white sand and crystal clear water. We grabbed our backpacks and headed into the bar at the pier for "breifing", which was held by a young man on a stool. He said about sand fliesand that coconut oil can repel them. He said not to go into the sea with a cut and if you do, wash it immediately with clean water. He mentioned yoga on the beach at 8:00 in the morning which sounds very cool. After briefing, we walked down the beach, feet in the water, to find our guesthouse: monkey island. When we arrived it was unreal. All the small wooden shacks lined across the sand. We walked to the bar where we met an english man. He said our room wasn't quite ready yet so we dumped our backpacks near the back and lay on the hammocks outside and watched the sea. I dipped my feet in and the water was sooo warm, so lovely! We sat inside the restaurant after chilling in the hammocks and looked at the menu. It's similar to monkey reublic with loads of tasty meals to offer. Dan followed a staff member to our room which is an elevated wooden hut on the beach. He came back and we ordered food. I ordered a lemon pepper chicken salad and chips. Everything took ages to come and i got mine way before daniel but it was nice food. We then went to the room to change into swimwear and we got in the sea. We only have to walk a few steps from our hut and we're on the beach, amazing! The water was warm and clear but very salty, not pleasant if you get some in your mouth, eyes or nose. There was practically no one on the beach except a few people walking passed. So peaceful and no hassle! Thank god! I felt my leg get stung by something at one point which scared me a bit. Some men had come to fix our broken step by completely replacing the whole staircase. Once they had finished, we went to have a shower in the communal toilets. They ask for a 1 minute limit per shower but that's impossible when you have hair to wash and legs to shave! We chilled on our balcony after, we plan to watch one of the moaning of life series that daniel got put onto his ipad in sihanoukville.
Later on, we went back to the reastaurant, walking along the beach in the dark and found a table. We both decided to order a veggie burger and chips. They said it would be a long wait and even though we ordered the same thing, they still came at different times and daniel's chips were cold so he had to wait longer for them to get him fresh ones. For dessert, i had coconut rice pudding and mango and daniel had chocolate and banana pancakes. We went back to our room after two "fellowship" cocktails on happy hour and watched the first episode of moaning of life under the mosquito net.
