So we were finally back on the road after a week of chores and saving our pocket money just enough to entertain us on our way through the south island. Jac the Monica that she is actually enjoyed the domesticity (is that right?, anyway its not a spelling competition, so it doesn´t matter) of it all... the freak.
We boarded the magic bus at 8 in the morning ready for a 6 hour drive down to capital city Wellington, well it would have been a six hour ride if the drive got his arse into gear, but yet again a thing we were starting to notice about this tour bus; we had to stop off at every bleedin souvenier shop on the way "for a toilet break" there is only so many possum skin socks one person can buy. The length of the journey´s mean we have developed an serious bad habbit to stop ourselves spending the whole day asleep on the bus, this comes in the form of sugar fixes and in this we mean a whole bag of cookies per trip. Not good for the waist or the teeth. However we can certainly say ANZAC bickies are the pick of the bunch.
Arriving in Wellington late we made a quick stop at the top of Mt Victoria to take some cool pics accross the city and then made our way to our hostel which we had for the first time in seven months booked ahead, we shouldn´t have botherd it was slightly rotten. Me nan wouldn´t appreciate the smell of must and rotten vegies from the back of the fridge, but there was one good point... it wasn´t Base.
Ok so wellington... now that we have had a big rant about hostels and buses. Wellington is a really cool city that reminded us a lot of Liverpool it had a huge dock with very old type dock buildings a cool alternative vibe running through the back alley´s of the city centre and was pretty lively throughout, not like dull as dishwater Auckland.
Our full day in Wellington was spent enjoying the busieness of the city centre before heading to the parliment buildings and the Beehive in particular which is a New Zealand landmark and we took a tour round buildings were all the decisions were made even getting close to a chair where only the queen sits. The evening was spent with wellington´s world famous cable car ride up a massive hill to watch the sunset over the city and get jealous of a couple behind us drinking champaign with their picnic... posh b*****s. We settled for a bowl of chilli and a cup of green tea when we got back home.
The next day we headed for the South Island. XXX
