After 4 days in Whitianga we headed back on the Magic Bus for Rotorua, I know that this bus sounds like one for special people but it really is quite cool. We left early in the morning to reach Waitomo Caves by lunchtime which was a must do and something we were really looking forward to doing. These caves are meant to be mind blowing limestone caves with some awesome rock formations filled with glowworms and a river running through it that you can tube on just like Laos but without the beer!Unfortunately our k*** of a driver forgot to mention that there are no ATM's in Waitomo so we were left sitting in the baking sun for three hours while everyone else was having the time of their lives down below. In the end we made do with a cheeky beer (detox is going great By the way!) until our bus departed for Rotorua. The special thing about Rotorua is it's a very active geo thermal area which means you can smell it before you see it! And Aaron can get away with his cheeky bum puffs! We were here for the weekend as were Cat and Tyler which was good to meet up but bad…very bad for the detox (I was drinking green tea and everything!), a meeting with C & T means BEER!
On the Saturday we visited the skyline Centre which had a cool skylift up the mountain and when you got there, there was hours of fun on this cart track called Luging. We had 5 rides of ragging a plastic cart down the side of a mountain. The first 2 were warm ups, a scenic route and an intermediate, just to get us used to the cart, after this we were ready for the advanced track, we firstly had a coffee and some sugar to get us all giddy! The the 6 of us, Me, Jac, Cat, Tiggy and Racel who is Cats sis, and Mel a friend of theirs, cained it down this ridiculously steep course with Tyler actually leaving the floor Starsky and Hutch style and me finishing last, but regaining my dignity by winning the next one! The third was ended in spectacular fashion with Cat cutting up her own sister (disgraceful) running her off the track and Rachel somersaulting through a cloud of dust as I was last again I saw the whole thing, it looked quite cool until I heard tears and saw the blood so I had to stop! I was great on this, I don't know if it's 'cos I'm light but I flew round this course overtaking people and going around corners on two wheels, much to the disappointment of the boys! After the 5 goes we resisted the temptation for more and returned to C & T's Motel room which had a spa in it (Posh gits) where we sat in warm water and ate pizza washing it down with Beer, ready for a night on the tiles, to celebrate my 25th Birthday. Unfortunately we had the pleasure if that's what you call it of visiting the worst backpackers bar so the night ended quite early for us.
The Sunday was Aarons birthday, we spent the day wondering around the gardens and at the Blue Baths which are mineral heated pools and a great little suntrap. We finished the day off with a 2ltr tub of cookie ice cream and a film, back on the magic bus tomorrow for another adventure!
