On the upside the journey didn't take too long but on the downside we had a couple of hours wait for our 'toy' train (narrow gauge and VERY compact, especially with all the baggage that each passenger had. I've added some photos of the train and the journey, whilst it lasted!
So far so good but then three hours into the journey the train stopped at a small station / stop because a truck had fallen off the road and had landed on the track. According to the feedback I could get from the really friendly Sikh the driver had estimated a two hour wait till the crane arrives and moves the truck. So rather than hang around (the Indian hour is much longer than the English hour) he, his family of 4 and the two of us decided to find our own way by bus as we were told the journey to Shimla by road was about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Amazingly, we found our bus pretty quickly and were on our way.
Luckily we found a bus which was empty when we boarded for our journey Shimla...but the bus broke down 4km! That said, our luck was in again as there was a taxi rank nearby so we jumped in and finished our 20 minute journey by taxi and at a cost of 350 Rupees (about £3.50).
The place we are staying in for the next day and a bit is straight out of the days of the Raj: building, decor, reception, bell boys, the works. We had a fantastic meal last night and hit the sack early. I'll just finish this letter first then off to breakfast.
