Today we drove an hour to the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri' (just outside New Delhi and 250km to our next destination of Samode. Interesting place with lots of history about attempts to bring together Hindus, Muslims and Christians in 1610 AD. Surprisingly, the idea didn't work and was abandoned 14 years after the city was built. It's now just a tourist attraction.
Our remaining 250km journey has been interesting from both a scenery / geography point of view as well as the weather was concerned: one minute absolutely chucking down and next minute bone dry and sunny...but damn hot throughout!
We are now at an amazing hotel (Havelli) in Samode. As we were driving through this VILLAGE in torrential rain and along a very rough, single track road I thought 'not looking forward to the Samode Palace Hotel'. When we turned into a tinier road after at least 20 minutes bumpy drive I was gobsmacked to see a huge and very old fashioned hotel in front of us. Check out the photos on the blog. We both have four poster beds and our own suite with a marble bath!! This place isn't a just a hotel its a museum too!
What's more, it even has free wifi and Sky Sports with the Ashes cricket! Heaven!
