Today we moved on from New Orleans. We stayed there for a total of 7 days (longest stay in any 1 place as yet). On the 5th day we switched hotels from a hostel to a stunning old mansion dating back to the mid-1800s. The staff were lovely, we had our own bathroom, breakfast was great (not a pancake in sight) and we were upgraded to a suite (what more can you ask for).
We visited the Louis No. 1 Cemetary which with all it's statues and elaborate tombs felt all very Interview with a Vampire. Until we were hunted out by Walter, the handyman, who insisted on giving us, and an elderly American couple who happened to be passing, a detailed tour in a torrential downpour. But it was all good fun (although I'm now full of cold) and hopefully he has now found his missing cat Lucky (all a bit surreal). If you ever go to New Orleans I would definitely seek out Walter at Louis No. 1 as his tour was more animated and informative than the commercial tours costing a lot more.
On our last night we went to a local bar specialising in steak which was awesome and has hopefully put Mike on until Texas. As for me, I'm craving a tuna sandwich.
We spent much of today travelling through Mississippi to arrive at Vicksburg (in Mississippi) (stopover before Memphis). First impressions are that it's very flat with a lot of churches. Tomorrow we go exploring.
