Tallahassee, well not an awful lot to say about the place, this was always going to be a transfer destination as we had to have a break from the greyhound! We arrived yesterday just around 2pm, the bus had been late around an hour and a bit of a trial to say the least it was a rainy horrible chilly kind of day. We got part way and it had stopped in the torrential rain some buzzer sounding from the drivers cabin, he vanished outside and some noises were heard 25mins later and we continued. It appears during that time the side of the coach had been opened to the rain and both of our rucksacks and clothes within had gotten a good soaking. Bloody Greyhound buses! We got to the hotel (actually motel super 8) following a short taxi ride. First thing we had to do was empty both bags and hang most of our clothes to dry and turn on the aircon to full heat and hair dryer the bags. Another day another lesson. From now on all our clothes will be bagged in plastic bags then put in rucksack. So this put a dampner on the start of Tallahassee, we then pulled ourselves together and went looking for some food, we ended up searching the net and urban spoon and decided upon Sonnys BBQ pit, the food was really smokey but as much as you can each and for $20 for us both a bargain!
We had a mix of Chicken and Ribs and pigged out although to be fair it will be the first and last BBQ joint we do as the smoky food just wasn't to our taste, although never say never ;) We finished the night with a few drinks at Jennys the darkest bar-restaurant in town.
Today we had a walk to go to see what Tallahassee has to offer and after a 3.5 mile walk decided it was actually nothing much. We stopped on the way today though and tried a buffet place for dinner which again was good and a great amount of choice feeding us both again for just over $20 circa £12! Bargain and we got some much needed veg, not something that is very abundant on many menus, you can see why some Americans are large ;)
Now we have a wait for the Greyhound, we're camped out at the hotel using their free (slow) Internet access and killing time. Our bus leaves tonight-tomorrow morning at 1am to New Orleans. Actually looking forward to a fairly long stay of 5+ days with not much travelling and lots on the agenda including "Reverend Zombies house of Voodoo" a must see we think. Mike & Kelly
